GENERAL

1. Title Of The Professional Examination

The Professional Examinations in

Land Surveying
Quantity Surveying
Property Consultancy & Valuation Surveying
Building Surveying
shall consist of the following :


Foundation Examination
The First Examination
The Intermediate Examination
The Final Examination

2.  Examination Centres & Dates

The Examinations are held in or about the month of May in Kuala Lumpur and other centres as decided by Council.   l back to top l

3.  Syllabuses
Candidates will take the examinations on the syllabuses published by the Institution. These syllabuses may be obtained from the Executive Secretary, Institution of Surveyors, Malaysia, 3rd Floor, Bangunan Juruukur, 64-66, Jalan 52/4, 46200 Petaling Jaya, Selangor.   l back to top l

4.  Application
Application to sit for a professional examination must be made on the prescribed form obtainable from the Institution.
Application forms duly signed by a Member of the Institution and the Candidate's Principal must be submitted to the Examination Secretary of the Institution between 1st August and 31st October of the year preceding the examinations.
Candidates must submit their applications either personally or by registered post or by ordinary letter post provided that they obtain from the Post Office a certificate of posting.
The receipt of all applications will be acknowledged by the Institution. Candidates must ensure that they receive an acknowledgement of their applications.   l back to top l

5.  Use of Books in Examination Halls
No books may be taken into the examination hall except those prescribed in the instructions which are sent to all candidates before sitting.   l back to top l

6.  Fees
Council may, from time to time, prescribe the fees payable by candidates for the examinations. The fees that may be prescribed will be as follows :
Enrollment Fees
These are to be those prescribed for applications for enrolment to the Attached Classes of the Instutiton of follows:-

Class Entrance Fee Annual Subscription
(i) Students RM20/- RM30/-
(ii) Probationers RM40/- RM60/-

b. Fee for each examination subject

Examination Per Subject
(i) First Examination RM50/-
(ii) Intermediate Examination RM100/-
(iii) Final/Direct Final Examination RM150/- Subject to minimum of RM100/- per sitting

c. Other Fees:-
(i) Fee for Processing for Exemption RM10/-per subject
(ii) Fee for Appeals RM50/-per subject

d. Penalty fees
(a) Penalty Fee for Late Entry:- 100% of (2) above
(b) Forfeitures for Withdrawals:-
           (i) At any time up to 4 weeks 50% of (2) above
           (ii) Within 4 weeks of examination 100% of (a) above

No candidates for any examination will be enrolled before the payment of the relevant fees prescribed in this rule have been made. Candidates withdrawing from the examinations at any time up to four weeks before the said examinations will forfeit 50% of their fees. Those withdrawing within four weeks of the said examinations will forfeit 100% of their fees.

A candidate who absents himself from the whole examination will forfeit all his fees. If he produces a medical certificate acceptable to Council certifying that he was made incapable of sitting the examinations due to illness, the return of the whole or part of the examination subject fees will be at the discretion of Council. back to top

7. Past Year Papers

a. Past year question papers at RM2.00 per year.

b. Rules and guide to the Profesional Exam The Professional Exam:-

        LS - RM5.00 a copy
       QS - RM10.00 a copy
       PCVS - RM7.00 a copy
       BS - RM6.00 a copy
 
Alternatively, you may send the cheque/money order for the exact amount plus another RM3.00 for the postage for the question papers and a copy of the Exam Syllabus.

8. Appeals

A candidate dissatisfied with the marking of his answer papers may appeal to the Examination and Accreditation Board within one month from the date of the publication of the results. The Board's decision on any appeal of this nature shall be final.
The Board shall not consider any appeal before the payment of the fee at Rule 6. Seventy five percent (75%) of this fee shall be returned to the candidate should his appeal be successful. back to top

9. Pass Marks
The pass mark for each of the subjects in the Foundation, First, Intermediate, Final and Direct Final Examinations shall be 50%. back to top

10. Publication of Results of Examinations
Action to inform the candidates and to publish the results of each examination will be taken by Council as early as possible after receipt of the report from the Examination & Accreditation Board. back to top

11. Amendments To Rules

These Rules shall be prescribed and published by Council and may be amended from time to time to take cognizance of technological developments that affect the science of surveying and the changing needs of the country. back to top

TPC (QS) - Practical Task
Those intent to sit for the TPC, must register with the Board of QS (Obtain Probationary Number). Then proceed to do the log book (2 years) with an ISM Supervisor, plus practical task. You may then apply to sit for the TPC Examination.

As of 1st March 2002, All practical task must be accompanied with the softcopy copy:-

Submission of practical task for the Joint TPC Exam
The BCIC Sub Committee in-charge of checking Candidates' submission of their Practical Tasks for the Joint TPC Exam wishes to inform all Candidates that the Joint TPC Committee together with BCIC Subcommittee (after having given due consideration into the various Candidates' appeal regarding the status of projects handled by their firms under the recent economic situation) have jointly agreed to accept the Concise Analysis of Residential Buildings for the Candidates' submission of their Practical Tasks (other rules for the submission of the Practical Tasks remain unchanged).

Detailed requirements for the submission of the Concise Cost Analysis for Residential Buildings shall be made available to the Candidates upon written request to the ISM-BCIC Subcommittee.

The above provisional waiver will be effective from 1st March 2002 until further notice that may be issued at any time as the Joint TPC Committee deems appropriate or necessary.

NB: - Effective 1st March 2002, all new submissions of the Practical Tasks must be in the form of Hardcopy Reports comb bonded accompanied with the electronic softcopy (in Microsoft Word & Excel to be stored in a CD). The committee reserves the right not to access the practical task unless the condition is met.

The Softcopy included the 3 cost plans in excel format and the scanned drawings (Scale not necessary). The excel format can be requested by the ISM BCIC Secretary En.Kumar. back to top
